Broken refrigerator hinge? If a refrigerator hinge is broken, it is often because a plastic part in the hinge has broken off, causing the spring in the hinge to become loose. This spring then gets stuck in the mechanism of the refrigerator hinge. In many cases, this causes the refrigerator to stop closing. It is best to replace a refrigerator door hinge as soon as possible, because the refrigerator will no longer close properly. This costs unnecessary electricity, because the refrigerator uses more electricity to keep everything cool. Hinge (built-in) refrigerator replacement Once you have received the correct refrigerator hinge at home, it still needs to be fitted, of course. You can replace the hinges of a freestanding or built-in refrigerator as follows: 1. Empty the entire refrigerator door so that there are no bottles of eggs, etc. in the door. 2. Then at the top of the refrigerator door, snap off the white plastic protective cap so that the mounting screws become visible. 3. Then on the side and bottom of the refrigerator door, snap off the plastic protective caps and then remove the screws from the mounting brackets. 4. Now you can unscrew the 2 large screws at the top of the door (where you first unclipped the protective cap). 5. The furniture door can now be removed from the refrigerator door (you can now see the refrigerator hinges). 6. Now close the refrigerator door and remove the screws from the hinges (tip: usually torx 20). 7. If you now open the door, you can take the door out. 8. Now loosen the screws from the refrigerator. Also loosen the screws screwed into the side of the kitchen cabinet. 9. Now you can change the hinges of your built-in refrigerator for new hinges. 10. Now reassemble everything in reverse order.
